The first RCMP pipe band was formed to perform in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in 1998 as part of the force's 125 th anniversary celebrations. In the years following, RCMP bands began to form across the country, generally by individuals who had been in the 1998 Tattoo band.
RCMP pipe bands, which now exist in Vancouver, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montreal, Moncton and Halifax, have a common ‘look and feel’. All wear the same uniform and are subject to the same standards, rules and regulations. The Pipes Major have agreed on a basic common repertoire (including dance sets) with the intent that, when the opportunity presents itself, players from one band can easily supplement another band for special events.
The mandate of the RCMP "H" Division band is to act as a public relations vehicle for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and to 'Benefit the Community through Music and Dance.'

The band is comprised of experienced players who wish to maintain their musical skills but may not have the time or inclination to commit to the practice regimen and commitment level required of a competition band. Our practices are designed to allow members the opportunity to maintain and enhance their piping and drumming skills in an enjoyable and supportive social environment. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not offer lessons to beginners but can assist you in finding appropriate instruction.
The Band practices on Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at RCMP ‘H’ Division Headquarters, 80 Garland Ave, Dartmouth, NS. Once a month, a day long practice is also held on a weekend to allow members from elsewhere in the province to attend and to provide an opportunity for more intensive training in parade drill.
